Top playwright Frank
McGuinness has entered the Hennessy Literary Awards
Hall of Fame.
The Buncrana-born writer was presented with the
honour at a ceremony at Dublin's Four Season's Hotel
earlier this week.

The Hall of Fame Award
was introduced by Hennessy four years ago to honour
the achievement of major writers who were first
published in New Irish Writing or won Hennessy
awards. Previous recipients include Joseph O'Connor
and Colum McCann.
McGuinness, who hails from Marian Park, near
Buncrana Main Street, first came to prominence in
1985 when his acclaimed play 'Observe the Sons of
Ulster Marching Towards the Somme' opened in the
Abbey Theatre.
The production won a series of awards including |
|
the London Evening
Standard's award for Most Promising Playwright.
Accepting his latest accolade, McGuinness said:
"This touches me very deeply."
His most recent visit home was to open the Canvas
Girls' art exhibition at the Plaza. Meanwhile, his
translation of the Bertolt Brecht play 'The
Caucasian Chalk Circle' is currently running at
London's National Theatre. |
