Sergio saves Buncrana bookie

Golfer Padraig
Harrington's momentous win in the British Open may
have cost Irish bookies millions but one Inishowen
turf accountant said he got away lightly. |
Liam McLaughlin of
Buncrana said he would have been much worse off had
Spaniard Sergio Garcia lifted the claret jug trophy.
"There wasn't a lot of money on Harrington here in
Buncrana. Garcia would have been a much worse result
for me," said Liam of the Market Square.
"Around ten people had money on Harrington but even
at that, they were pretty small bets at around maybe
€10." |

Even so, with the
Dubliner's odds at 20-1, the Buncrana bookie will
now have to pay out €2,000.
"I was lucky this time," he added. "A good lot of
people backed Garcia and he was a better price so I
would have had a bigger pay-out had he won." |
