‘Move quickly on Greencastle funding’ - McHugh urges Council 19.03.07

Donegal County Council has been urged to “move right away” to provide its share of funding to develop Greencastle Harbour.
Senator Joe McHugh made the call after the Department of the Marine announcement it would allocate €16.8m for the project.
McHugh, who is the Fine Gael candidate for Donegal North East in the forthcoming general election and FG’s Seanad marine spokesman, said the funding was great news for Inishowen’s fishing industry.
"I want this to be dealt with as a matter of urgency by the County Manager, Michael McLoone and by Donegal County Council. The reality is that most of the funding has been put in place and, boiled down, all the Council has to provide is €2m."
He said he wanted the money allocated before the election.

“We all know only too well that all sorts of promises are made by government party politicians and ministers to woo the electorate, but when you check out what really happened after the polling is over you would be amazed at how few projects actually go ahead. This can't be allowed to happen here."
He added: "For the long term future of Inishowen - for economic prosperity, jobs and roads etc., we need a thriving fishing industry. That's the long and the short of it."
Donegal County Council’s match funding amount was reduced after Greencastle was named a Clar area of economic disadvantage.
