Letterkenny Hospital prepares for work stoppage 12.04.07

Management at Letterkenny General Hospital are putting in place a contingency plan in the event of a work stoppage by nursing staff. The Donegal acute hospital has not yet been earmarked for a stoppage by the Irish Nurses’ Organisation. However, hospital manager, Sean Kelly said it is a probability for which he must make contingencies. A meeting of the National Implementation Body to review the escalating nurses' dispute ended yesterday without a decision to invite the parties back to renewed talks. The dispute ran to one-hour work stoppages at St. Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin, South Tipperary General Hospital and St Luke's Psychiatric Hospital, both in Clonmel. The next phase of one-hour stoppages will begin on Friday and will include Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Roscommon General Hospital and Roscommon Mental Health Services. A nationwide work-to-rule by 40,000 nurses, which began ten days ago, is also continuing throughout the country including Letterkenny.
