Inishowen radio seeks sports
commentators
30.07.07
INISHOWEN Community
Radio (ICR fm) is looking for budding sports
commentators for its first regular weekly sports
programme being launched in September.
The three-hour sports show, to be broadcast live
each Sunday afternoon, will mostly focus on the
sports played in Inishowen - everything from soccer
to draughts. |
But it will give
special prominence to minority sports of all types,
on the progress of sportspeople from Inishowen who
are competing further afield and will also strongly
feature school and youth sports. |

The programme needs
commentators, presenters, interviewers and reporters
to cover all the sporting activity in Inishowen.
"Experience is not required but enthusiasm and an
interest in sports, of all kinds, is vital as
training will be provided," explained ICRfm manager,
Jim Doherty.
"We especially want all local clubs, teams, schools
and sporting organisations to get involved – and not
just the PRO," he said.
The aim of the new programme is to give local
Inishowen sport the exposure it deserves.
"There is a wide range of sporting activity in
Inishowen, everything from mainstream to minority
sports including basketball, darts, tug-o-war,
draughts, GAA, badminton, swimming, athletics and
watersports.
"The ICR Sports Show will reflect that sporting
diversity in live reports, interviews and feature a
live game each week from different sports," added
Jim.
Funded by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI)
through the Sound and Vision Scheme, the ICR Sports
Show will be fast-paced, cover a wide range of
material and have a large number of contributors
each Sunday reporting by phone from various venues
and games. It will include a small amount of music
to increase entertainment value and diversity.
If you want to be a part of ICRfm's first team of
sports reporters and contributors or want more
information on how your club or sport can
participate, contact Jim Doherty at ICR on 074
9329105 or email him at
