Down the old bog road...
03.08.07
INISHOWEN'S newest hill
walking trail was launched yesterday in bright
sunshine and a fresh trekking breeze.
The Inishowen Head Walk begins in Shroove just north
of Greencastle and follows the route of an old bog
road in a 7km loop. It includes part of an historic
link route between Shroove and Kinnagoe Bay. |

Donegal walking and
trails development officer, Jeremy Smith described
the beauty and history attached to the waymarked
way.
"The walk winds its way through remote countryside
with stunning sea views and coastal scenery and
passes sites of historic interest such as St.
Columba's last landing place in Ireland before
departing for the |
Scottish island of
Iona," he said.
The trail has been developed in partnership with the
North East Inishowen Tourism and Development Company
Ltd.
Mr. Smith said that local community involvement at
all stages of development and maintenance of walks
and trails was "critical to their long-term
success". |
"Local people need to
feel that they are getting the walks they want and
that their views and aspirations are key
considerations in the planning and development
process.
"Equally, Donegal County Council need to feel
confident that any investment will be valued by the
communities where investment is being made," he
said. |

Inishowen Head Walk and
a further 15 trails across the county, have been
included in a project to provide internet based
information on walks in County Donegal.
Information sheets on each walk including map, how
to get there, the distance involved and level of
difficulty, will be available shortly. For more
