Herbalist to open Inishowen Gathering 22.06.07

Author and herbalist Judith Hoad will officially open the eagerly-awaited Inishowen Summer Gathering at Inch Island at the end of the month.
Ms. Hoad who has written extensively on the healing power of plants and herbs is the author of 'Healing with Herbs'. She has lived in a sustainable way for more than 40 years in homes with no electricity or plumbing.
She said: “Many wild herbs are ignored, or thought to be poisonous. Few are, and I eat them and use them for remedies, as well."
The Inishowen Summer Gathering takes place from Saturday, June 30th to Sunday, July 1st with a huge variety of activities and entertainment including organic food market, arts and crafts, music and dance, aromatherapy and healing, yoga and information stalls.
Hosted by the Inch Island Community Association, this year's event, the third so far, will be powered by a wind turbine.
One of the organisers Kathleen O'Hara Farren at a recent Gathering event.
"It is a community initiative and registered charity, with the aim of celebrating and promoting Inishowen’s environment, heritage and community," said a spokesperson.
The organisers stress that the event is family-centred and aims to create a safe and respectful environment for all who take part.
This year's Gathering hopes to: promote local sustainability; explore natural energy and holistic living; support organic produce and self-reliance; encourage healthy living; revive traditional arts, crafts and skills; demonstrate alternative technologies; allow you the time to slow down and hopefully inspire all those who attend.
