Chef bursary in memory of James Kealy 17.09.07

A BURSARY in memory of the late Inishowen chef James Kealy will be presented at a culinary seminar later this year.
The James Kealy Training Bursary will be presented on November 14th at the Chef Training Conference organised by Inishowen Tourism Accel Hospitality Skills programme.
Kealy's Seafood Restaurant in Greencastle. The event, to be held at An Grianan Hotel, Burt, will look at the chef's role in marketing and sourcing top Irish produce and suppliers. It will also focus on food safety issues and encourage chefs to use all the avenues of training to develop their skills in order to encourage, educate and mentor the staff of the future. The day kicks off at 10am with an
address by Inishowen Tourism Accel Programme manager, Ana McColgan followed by the official launch of the seminar by Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan.
James Kealy died earlier this year following a long illness. He put Greencastle on Ireland's culinary map through his multi award-winning Kealey's Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant reopened at the start of the summer season with his wife and business partner, Trish, now at the helm.
The presentation of the bursary will be made jointly by Inishowen Tourism chairman, John Henry McLaughlin and Accel Project chairperson, Ann McGrory. Anyone who would like to become an event sponsor or have and exhibition stand at the chef seminar can contact 074 9384317 or email accelinishowen@googlemail.com .
