Jansu decision deferred again 03.08.07

A DECISION on the planning application to redevelop the former Fruit of the Loom site at Buncrana's Shore Front was deferred yesterday for the seventh time.
It is understood however, that An Bord Pleanala could make their ruling known before close of business today.
The former Fruit of the Loom factory at Shore Front. The planning appeals body is deliberating on Jansu Ltd's proposal to convert the former seaside factory into a multi-million euro complex comprising luxury apartments, retail units, offices and a car park.
The application, which went before the appeals board last November, sparked
controversy after strong opposition from the Shore Front Residents' Association.
The residents' objections centre chiefly on concerns about the scale of the proposal and fears the area won't be able to cope with the increased traffic volumes.
A majority vote by Buncrana Town Council, initially rejected an application to rezone the area in the town plan from industrial to commercial. However, the necessary rezoning for the Jansu development to go ahead has since taken place.
