Joy's delight at St. Aengus accolade 21.11.07

INISHOWEN'S most-loved building has received yet another in a long list of international honours.
The entrance to St. Aengus Church. St. Aengus Church in Burt, designed by the late Greencastle architect, Liam McCormick, is named in a new book as a building you must see before you die.
The beautiful church which was built in 1967, was also named the Building of the 20th Century.
Simply titled '1001 Buildings You Must See Before You Die', the new
900-page tome will be published in London next week.
The publishers say the buildings covered are the most significant in the world from an architectural point of view.
InishowenNews.com last night broke the news about Burt chapel's entry in the new book, to Liam McCormick's widow, Joy.
"That's wonderful, I'm delighted to hear that," she said. "It's wonderful to get further proof of Liam's international status as an architect and to hear that St. Aengus has been listed with the other great buildings of the world."
The publishers Cassell say the new book is "a visual testament to the beauty, grace, and fortitude of the world's greatest architectural achievements".
It includes Byzantine and Gothic examples of great architecture such as Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. It also lauds modern classics like the Chrysler
St Aengus Church in Burt.
Building in New York and contemporary innovations such as Norman Foster's Reichstag parliament building in Berlin.
There are about a dozen Irish entries in the new book including Dublin's Custom House, Marino Casino and RTE's Montrose studios. To read a special feature on St. Aengus Church published earlier this year on InishowenNews.com, click here .
