Parents in Buncrana,
Carndonagh and other parts of Inishowen are paying
up to €300 a week for childcare, according to a
local election candidate.
Labour Party hopeful, Siobhan McLaughlin, said
despite the country’s economic success many families
in Donegal North East were no better off.
“Childcare remains a major issue,” she said, after
another day on the campaign trail.
“In Buncrana, Carndonagh, Letterkenny and Milford,
families are feeling stretched, paying very high
fees for crèches and childminding.
“One women said to me that the you first have to
find someone to mind your children before you even
get to discuss the fee. If you are paying for more
than one child to be minded the bill can be up to
€300 a week.”
