LYIT gets €31,000 in research
grants

Researchers at
Letterkenny Institute of Technology are to get
€31,000 in Government funding to buy new equipment.
The grants are aimed at giving post-graduate
research students access to the best equipment
needed for their work.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Niall Blaney said
the funding was important for the "continued
advancement of the research capability of
third-level education" at LYIT.
"LYIT has been awarded €31,000 in a research
equipment renewal grant. This grant is aimed at
giving researchers in our institute of technology
access to state-of the art equipment," said Deputy
Blaney.
‘It is part of a national allocation that totals
more than €28 million and is targeted at the
replacement, updating and renewal of research
equipment, primarily small and medium-sized
equipment.
"Another programme for research in third-level
institutions will address the need for very large
equipment," he added.
The level of funding allocated to each institution
is based on the number of full-time research
post-graduate students enrolled.
"As we continue to upskill our workforce nationally
and in Donegal, it’s important that we allocate
sufficient funding to help put in place the most
up-to-date equipment that’ll enable our graduates to
compete well in a changing economy," he said. |
