Peninsula hit by lightening
storms
13.06.07
Inishowen was hit with
thunder and lightening storms yesterday that left a
number of households without power.
The storms, accompanied by heavy downpours, began
around lunchtime and lasted for around two hours,
with eastern areas including Moville and Greencastle
among the worst hit. |
ESB spokesman Brian
Hegarty said several hundred customers throughout
the county were left without power as a result of
lightening. Castlefin, Manorcunningham and Raphoe
were particularly affected.
"We had a number of isolated outages in Inishowen
too and our crews were out |

during the day
restoring power to those affected," he said.
The hottest weather of the year so far - up to 25
degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday - has been
replaced by cloudier, wet conditions. Further
showers are expected today with a risk of thunder.
Forecasters say the rest of the week will be
characterised by rain that will be heavy and persistent in
places. However, brighter conditions are expected to return for the weekend. |
