Peninsula hit by lightening storms 13.06.07

Inishowen was hit with thunder and lightening storms yesterday that left a number of households without power.
The storms, accompanied by heavy downpours, began around lunchtime and lasted for around two hours, with eastern areas including Moville and Greencastle among the worst hit.
ESB spokesman Brian Hegarty said several hundred customers throughout the county were left without power as a result of lightening. Castlefin, Manorcunningham and Raphoe were particularly affected.

The hottest weather of the year so far - up to 25 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday - has been replaced by cloudier, wet conditions. Further showers are expected today with a risk of thunder. Forecasters say the rest of the week will be characterised by rain that will be heavy and persistent in places. However, brighter conditions are expected to return for the weekend.
