INISHOWEN motorists
face a backlog of up to six weeks to have their cars
NCT tested.
The Letterkenny NCT Centre and other centres in the
North West are "extremely busy" this summer, an NCT
spokesperson told InishowenNews.com.
"We are under pressure all over the country, but the
North West is particularly suffering with waiting
times of between three and six weeks," said the
spokesperson.
The backlog is due to a number of factors including
more cars on the road and a surge in drivers who
fail to confirm their original booking but whose NCT
discs are now close to expiry.
NCT Centres operate a provisional booking system,
generally offering motorists appointments in the
weeks running up to the expiry date.
If a motorist fails to confirm that booking, it is
automatically cancelled.
"We can't force people to come in on time. A lot of
people leave it to the last minute but then that
creates a surge in drivers looking for appointments
at the same time.
However, people are urged not to panic. If their NCT
certificate is due to expire, they are advised to
call NCT Central Reservations and ask to be put on
the priority list.
