ASPIRING writers in
Donegal are invited to submit their novels and short
stories to a new local book publisher.
The Stoners’ Press is part of the expanding creative
writing services provided by Artists in Creative
Enterprise (ACE).
ACE director, Rathmullan-based writer, Patrick
Kearney said The Stoners' Press was "an exciting new
development" for the group.
"I quickly saw an opportunity to launch the
publishing press for emerging new writers through
running creative writing workshops across Ireland
and beyond these past three years," he said.
"In Donegal alone, some 300 writers aged 16 to 80
years of age have participated in my workshops and
many of them have demonstrated a powerful gift to
storytell in both the written and spoken word.
"My aim in establishing The Stoners’ Press is to
publish new writers and to encourage others to
develop their craft. The Stoners’ Press will invest
time, expertise and finance to publish good quality
prose writing."
The Stoners’ Press will involve a number of
established writers and artistic directors in the
process of selecting manuscripts for publication.
Among them will be David Gothard, who facilitates
creative writing at the legendary international
writers’ workshop in Iowa, USA, where Tennessee
Williams and Raymond Carver were associated. In
Britain he has been associated with the work of
Hanif Kureishi and Samuel Beckett.
It will publish its first book this September, 'WordFlight'
- a book of prose and poetry to mark the 400th
anniversary of the Flight of the Earls.
