Newtowncunningham is in
line for 34 new affordable houses at a cost of
nearly €5m.
It is hoped the measures will reduce the long
waiting list for public housing in the growing town.
The homes, which will be offered to cash-strapped
buyers at a much-reduced price to the market value,
are being provided with funding from the Department
of Housing and Urban Renewal.
The announcement was welcomed yesterday by Deputy
Niall Blaney who confirmed that a total of €4.8
million had been allocated for the construction
project.
“This housing boost is much needed for
Newtowncunningham and I am delighted that this
significant funding has been forthcoming," he said.
“The growing population in Newtowncunningham demands
these additional housing units.
"There are many young families on the housing list
in the area that will be glad to hear of this
allocation and I hope that the housing units will be
progressed without delay,” he said. |
