BUNCRANA'S
decentralised offices, new Garda station and driver
testing centre will cost €21.3m to build.
That's the value of the contract awarded to McNamara
Construction last week after the company was named
the successful tenderer.
The long-awaited offices will be located on the
inner relief road at Ardaravan.
The figure was released yesterday by Senator Cecilia
Keaveney who said the key agencies in the town and
peninsula now needed to get behind the drive to
attract 120 civil servants to the seaside town.
She urged Buncrana Chamber of Commerce to lead the
charge.
Senator Keaveney described the progression of the
project to building stage as "signficant news for
the peninsula".
She said it was hoped McNamaras would be on site by
the end of the year.
"This offers us all now the reality of getting the
message of what we have to offer out strongly to the
civil servants that we will be relying on to be
decentralised out of Dublin," said Senator Keaveney.
"The work starts now physically on the capital
investment but there is still a lack of numbers
presenting for decentralisation to Buncrana.
"We do have a good location to sell. We have many
positive messages to deliver. We must do this
together as one united area."
Senator Keaveney highlighted the case of Claremorris
Chamber of Commerce, which she said was "leading the
way" in attracting civil servants to a decentralised
location.
"I strongly encourage the Buncrana Chamber of
Commerce to do the same."
The Moville-based senator wished the contractors
well in their successful tender and looked forward
to the other aspects of the project including a new
state-of-the-art Garda HQ and driver testing centre. |
