€20,000 for Donegal Pet Rescue
17.12.07
DONEGAL Pet Rescue has
been awarded a grant of €20,000 to continue its work
with abused and neglected animals.
The funding is among 107 allocations to animal
shelters around the country and is part of a 25%
rise in overall funding to such groups.
Moville-based Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the
financial boost. |
“These bodies do
tremendous work in rescuing, rehabilitating and
providing new homes to neglected and abused animals
and I greatly welcome the announcement by Minister
Mary Coughlan," said Senator Keaveney.
"Although the grants being announced today do not
cover the full costs of the increasing demands being
placed upon these organisations, the substantial |

increase in the level
of funding recognises the vital role played by such
organisations in animal welfare.
"I was delighted to meet members of the Donegal Pet
Rescue recently and lobby with the Minister for the
extra funding.
"A pet is for life, not just for Christmas and I
appeal to parents and others to think responsibly
when considering giving a pet as a Christmas
present, given the numbers of animals that are
abandoned every year as soon as the Christmas
novelty has worn off," added the local senator. |
