Carnival mixes with pride in
Rathmullan
17.09.07
INISHOWEN, the rest of
Donegal, Ulster and Spain were all represented at
the weekend as large crowds converged on Rathmullan
for the 400th anniversary of the Flight of the
Earls. |

With the masts of the majestic Jeanie Johnston on
the Swilly enhancing the sense of history, a
carnival atmosphere filled the air in the
picturesque village.
Many were disappointed on Saturday, however, that
they could not board the Jeanie |

Johston as billed on
the programmes. Rougher than forecast seas had
forced the closure of the ship for health and safety
reasons. Staff assured the crowds they could step on
board on Sunday while the action-packed programme
including outdoor gigs, Irish dancing and a
colourful carnival parade more than made up for
disappointment and grey skies.
