Oarsmen and women
around Inishowen are being asked to take part in a
sponsored row from Derry to Greencastle for charity.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 30th,
2007 leaving Prehen at 9am.
"If you fancy the challenge and consider yourself a
rower then this is the perfect opportunity to get
your oars out and dip the water," said a
spokesperson.
"If you prefer to stay on dry land you might wish to
do a walk and help to raise money on the way."
The sponsored row will raise funds for Self Help -
an Irish development agency that implements
sustainable development programmes in rural Africa.
The charity has helped nearly two million people in
eastern Africa to achieve food self sufficiency
since its
foundation 22 years ago.
It also carries out work to provide basic social
services to those in need and promotes the
conservation of natural resources.
Derry's leisure boat, the Toucan, will also be part
of the fundraiser offering a trip including onboard
entertainment and refreshments for those who prefer
to stay dry while still cheering their chosen team
on.
A warm welcome is being planned at Greencastle Pier
for the participants.
Rowing clubs, organisations and individuals who
would like to take part or help out can contact
Albert Doherty on 07493 83360 for further details.
