‘We do like to be beside the seaside’ 10.04.07

Houses with a good sea view in Inishowen are worth around 50% more than inland homes, a new survey shows.
And the research shows that if you’re lucky enough to live right on the waterfront, your pad is likely to be worth double the average property in the peninsula.
The figures are part of the Sunday Times’ Home Ireland survey.
It set the standard as homes that enjoy a good sea view from the living room window with the findings based on the professional opinion of estate agents.
And it showed that Donegal sea views command the second highest premiums in the country, next only to Sligo.
Culdaff beach The Home Ireland figures show that being directly on the waterfront will add around 125% to the value of your home in Donegal.
They show that if you have a good sea view from your living room, you can add 50% more on to the average price.
Leo McCauley of McCauley Properties agrees that a good sea view was among
the top features for which buyers were prepared to dig deep.
“Inishowen has plenty of superb sea views and if the location is right, people are definitely prepared to pay a premium of between 45% and 50% for one,” he explained.
“Similarly, houses that are directly on the waterfront in Inishowen are so rare coming to the market that demand alone would push the price up.”
In Sligo, by comparison, a property on the waterfront will set you back 150% more than your average home while a good sea view from the living room will command 75% more.
In Galway, seafront properties typically fetch 60% more while those with a good living room view will be 25% dearer.
