TRIBUTES have been paid
to the late Clubman Omega director Sean Tighe who
has died following a long illness.
An accountant by profession, Sean Tighe was a
prominent member of the Fine Gael party in Donegal
North East.
He was director of elections for Cllr. Bernard
McGuinness in 2002 and was a member of the first
board of the Western Development Commission. He was
also a Government appointed member of the Donegal
Task Force that was set up in the late 1990s
following the closure of Fruit of the Loom.
In more recent years, the Sligo-born businessman was
in the media during the long-running dispute between
management and former Clubman Omega machinists over
redundancy pay. This followed the closure of
operations at Lisfannon and Carndonagh and the
outsourcing of production to Lithuania.
Company headquarters were moved earlier this year to
Elaghbeg Business Park in Bridgend following the
sale of the factory building to a Buncrana
accountancy firm.
Buncrana Town Mayor, Cllr. Paul Bradley paid tribute
to his Fine Gael colleague and fellow Clubman
director. He said the late accountant tried,
"through very, very difficult times" in the textiles
industry, to keep Clubman going.
"Sean had a very strong business background and
business accumen. He could always see the big
picture.
"He will be badly missed by his family and friends.
He has two young boys, of 14 and 15 years of age and
Sean's death is a big loss for them. He will be
sadly missed in the North West area."
Sean Tighe was predeceased by his wife Fidelma (nee
McLaughlin) some years ago. He is survived by his
two teenage sons. For funeral arrangements,
