Work stoppages by
nurses are likely to affect Letterkenny Hospital at
the end of next week, the local branch of the INO
has warned.
This follows the collapse of talks between nursing
unions and health service employers at Government
Buildings yesterday.
The Irish Nurses' Organisation (INO) now says it
plans to move swiftly to restart work stoppages in
hospitals around the country including Letterkenny.
An INO local branch spokesperson said: "It's likely
that if this dispute proceeds, which it looks like
it is, Letterkenny will have a stoppage.
We are going to have stoppages in each of the acute
locations and we anticipate that the stoppage will
affect Letterkenny at the end of next week."
Meanwhile, the local INO branch said it also has
plans to picket Fianna Fail election campaign events
in the coming weeks.
"Other than the stoppages, we will also be looking
at the events being run by the Government parties in
Donegal and we will be considering picketing those."
Meanwhile, the Health Service Executive (HSE)
accused the Irish Nurses Organisation and the
Psychiatric Nurses Association of rejecting a
"viable and workable" solution to end the industrial
action.
The INO and the PNA are pursuing a 35-hour working
week and a 10.6% pay increase.
