Clonmany is set to
become safer for pedestrians and drivers with the
imminent introduction of road safety measures.
Traffic islands will be installed at Cleagh outside
the local nursing home and vision lines are to be
painted at the junction from Cloontagh onto the main
R238 road.
Cllr. Pádraig MacLochlainn welcomed the
improvements. "My Council colleague Cllr. Denis
McGonagle and I, have pursued these two issues for
quite a while now and we are pleased to finally see
them being addressed," he said.
However, Cllr. MacLochlainn said more needed to be
done to improve safety for road users in other parts
of the parish.
"There are more issues to be addressed such as the
Mintiagh and Mindoran bends, the corner leading to
Dunaff Post Office, additional traffic calming at
Cloontagh and Rasheney schools and the construction
of a footpath along the Chapel Glen Road.
"I will not be satisfied until all of these issues
are addressed one-by-one and I would call on members
of the public in the Clonmany parish to contact me
about any other dangerous road safety issues that
are unresolved within the parish," he added. |
