A number of people
were injured following three road accidents over the
weekend.
Two motorcyclists were injured in separate accidents
in Clonmany and Moville.
A biker from Derry was injured when his vehicle was
involved in a head-on collision with a car at Straid,
Clonmany, at 5.40pm on Sunday. His injuries were not
life-threatening.
Another motorcylist is believed to have sustained
back injuries when he lost control of his vehicle on
a bend at Claggan, Moville, around 7.10pm. It is
understood the man, who is from the Belfast area,
was taken to Altagelvin hospital for treatment.
Gardai also confirmed that one man was arrested on
Sunday at 2.30pm following an accident at
Magherarnett on the Mountain Road from Carndonagh to
Buncrana. Two cars travelling in the same direction,
left the road and ended up in a nearby field.
Several people were taken to hospital with what are
believed to be minor injuries. Gardai are also
investigating two minor RTAs in the Inishowen area
in which only material damage was caused to
vehicles.
Meanwhile, the scourge of drink driving continued
around Inishowen with a total of four drivers
arrested on suspicion of being over the legal
alcohol limit.
Two of the arrests were in the Buncrana area at
Ludden and Ballymacarry with one in Tooban, Burnfoot
and one in the Moville area.
A Garda spokesperson said the anti-drink driving
message was not getting through to some people who
were prepared to risk their own and other people’s
lives on our roads.
