RTE films young Inishowen
writers
26.10.07
THE national
broadcaster was in Inishowen on Tuesday to film
young writers reading work they recently published
in the 'WordFlight' book.
WordFlight overall winner, Niamh McMullan, from St.
Aengus N.S., Bridgend, and fellow star pupils and
writers, Stephen O’Donnell and Charlie Lavery, did
themselves proud with their confident and
entertaining performances for the RTE News2day team. |
Writers and poets,
Patrick Kearney, of the WordFlight project, Pamela
Brown, and Abby Oliveira were also part of the
event.
The local youngsters were selected recently for
publication along with 96 others internationally, to
commemorate the 99 people who left Donegal in 1607
during the Flight of the Earls. |
|
"We gifted a
commemorative copy of WordFlight to RTE to mark the
young writers’ huge achievement," said Mr. Kearney.
Other Inishowen schools whose pupils are published
in the book include: Moville Community College, St.
Patrick’s Girls’ N.S., Carndonagh, and Scoil Naomh
Brid, N.S., Muff.
A WordFlight reading tour of schools, colleges, and
youth centres across Donegal, Derry and Tyrone is
currently underway.
Copies of the book are on sale, priced €10, and
monies raised will be gifted to projects assisting
homeless Irishmen and Irishwomen to return to
Ireland. To buy a copy or for more information,
