More young people in
Donegal are to get a chance to participate in a
programme designed for early school leavers.
An extra ten places have been provided on the
Youthreach programme run through the Donegal
Vocational Educational Committee.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Cecilia Keaveney
said people should recognise that it's "never too
late to invest in education".
"An extra ten places have been allocated to Donegal
which will assist young people aged between 15 and
20 years of age who have left mainstream education
early," said Deputy Keaveney.
"Youthreach is a very important resource for early
school leavers as it can provide the opportunity for
a return of self-esteem and in the case of some
people, success in learning.
"It is a useful mechanism to developing the skills
of young people and providing them with a stepping
stone to further education that will enhance the
quality of their lives."
Donegal's ten extra places are among 400 new
Youthreach places provided to 18 VECs nationally.
Yesterday's announcement means there will be a total
of 3,650 Youthreach places available nationally this
year.
Deputy Keaveney said the extra places were a
"further commitment of the Government's investment
in the youth of Donegal".
