Nothing WEEE about 40 tonne waste collection 10.09.14

IT might have been organised in association with the WEEE recycling group but there was nothing wee about the amount of waste electrical goods collected in Co Donegal last month.
The local authority has revealed that a whopping 40 tonnes of waste electrical goods were collected during August - filling NINE articulated lorries.
The collections took place as part of eight free one- off electrical goods recycling days in Buncrana, Falcarragh, Carrigart, Bunbeg, Lifford, Kilybegs, Bundoran and Glencolmcille.
More than 40 tonnes of all types of large and small waste electrical and electronic goods were collected for recycling.
One of the nine articulated lorries that were filled with 40 tonnes of waste electrical items during free recycling in Co Donegal last month.
WEEE standing for waste electrical and electronic equipment was set up to allow householders to bring back their old electrical or electronic items to retailers for free.
Meaning that if a retailer has given a householder 24 hours' notice of delivery and your old item is ready for collection the retailer must collect the old item on delivery of the new one, completely free of charge.
Meanwhile, you can bring back your waste electrical goods free of charge all year round to any one of the six recycling centres in Donegal namely: Carndonagh, Letterkenny, Laghey, Milford, Dungloe and Stranorlar.
All sizes and all types of old unwanted electrical goods or electronic goods are accepted for recycling free of charge, basically anything with a plug or a battery. To check out opening hours click here .
For more information on the free recycling of electrical or electronic goods contact recycling officer David Friel on 9176274 or waste awareness officer, Suzanne Bogan on 9176276.
